Another Perspective about Shasta Lake... The One NOT being Told!!!
February 2009
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You may have noticed lately that the News Media is having a hay day with promoting the "so called" low water levels at Shasta Lake.  Every picture they show of Shasta is merely a mud puddle that was once covered with water.  Here is what they are not telling you:
Shasta Lake is one of the largest lakes in the western United States with 365 miles of shoreline when at full pool.
When Shasta Lake is at 50% full, it still boasts a whopping 259 miles of Shoreline!  Even when the lake hit its lowest point in history back in 1977-78 the lake still retained a 124 mile shoreline!
We have done some research and looked at some other popular Californian Lakes; the following data shows the shorelines of these lakes when they are at full pool:
Lake Berryessa      165 miles
Lake New Melones  100 miles
Lake Don Pedro      160 miles
Clear Lake             127 miles
Folsom Lake            75 miles
Lake Almanor           52 miles
in comparison, Shasta Lake still provides more shoreline than any of these even at low water levels.
So the truth about Shasta Lake is that even with low water levels there is still more water than most lakes in California, plenty in which to boat, ski and wakeboard.  And the fishing is better yet!
Check out these pictures that were taken just last week!
We will continue to update the website weekly with more photos and lake level information for you to see as the water rises!!
These Photos were taken near Shasta Dam on February 20th, 2009.  Between February 20th and February 25th Shasta Lake received 6.15 inches of rain and came up a total of 17.62 feet!!!
